Bucket List: Loco Moco

I tried the Loco Moco! How have I never had this dish before? My husband has always been a huge fan of Hawaiian BBQ. I stubbornly insisted I wasn't going to try it, especially Loco Moco. I ended up adding it to my recent bucket list of food though and decided to make it the first thing to try.

It's insanely good!

It starts with a base of white sticky rice. It's topped with two think hamburgers, a ton of brown gravy and two fried eggs. I thought at first it would be a little weird, but the salty goodness of the brown gravy works just perfectly with the fried eggs and the hamburger.

Loco Moco is a popular contemporary specialty in Hawaii and is a staple at most mainland Hawaiian BBQ places.

  1. Took you long enough, LOL!!! It's nowhere near as good on the Mainland, but I lived primarily in Hawaii until I was 4, so I'm more than a little biased ^_^;;; Chili rice is another major staple I recommend, you're supposed to use approximately equal parts chili and rice, with enough shredded cheese to make the whole thing slightly stringy when you stir it all together, though it also depends on your personal taste.
